Laboratory Measurements
This 65-inch integrating sphere was used to provide the preflight radiometric
calibration of MISR. The large diameter is needed to insure the cameras see
a uniform target. The sphere output is known by use of "standard detectors".
This technique is used by national standard laboratories.
The preflight calibration is useful to verify the instrument design and
manufacture, and to verify the operation of the in-flight on-board calibrator.
