Nearly 15 times every 24 hours, the Terra spacecraft, traveling southward, crosses from day into night at high southern latitudes. This true-color image was taken by the most steeply forward looking camera of the Multi-angle Imaging SpectroRadiometer (MISR) instrument on board. The Ross Ice Shelf and Transantarctic Mountains are illuminated by low Sun.
