Biography:
Roger Marchand's research focuses on the retrieval of cloud macrophysical and microphysical properties using remote sensing observations (principally from millimeter wavelength radar, lidar and a variety of passive sensors), as well as using these properties to test and improve the representation of clouds in climate and cloud resolving models. In recent years, Dr. Marchand has worked extensively with the Multiscale Modeling Framework climate model and its associated cloud-resolving model (the System for Atmospheric Modeling). Dr. Marchand earned his Ph. D in electrical engineering from Virginia Tech in 1997 and since that time has held research positions at Penn State University and the U.S. Department of Energy Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. He is currently at the University of Washington Joint Institute for the Study of the Atmosphere and Ocean.
